Russian missiles and drones target Kiev

Nov 14, 2024

Kiev [Ukraine], November 14: The Russian military has attacked the Ukrainian capital Kiev with missiles and drones, in the first such combined attack for over two months, according to the Ukrainian military.
The head of the military administration, Serhiy Popko, said on Wednesday that several missiles and drones were shot down during the attack.
President Volodymyr Zelensky used the attacks to once again urge the delivery of more air defence systems from Western partners.
"It is important that our forces have something so we can protect the country from Russian terror," he wrote on Telegram.
Zelensky said he was grateful to every partner who has helped so far. Air defence not only saves lives, but also protects infrastructure, he added.
In the district of Brovary, east of Kiev, one person was slightly injured by falling rocket debris and one building was destroyed by a fire, the authorities said.
According to the Ukrainian air force, two cruise missiles of the type Ch-101 and two Iskander ballistic missiles were intercepted. In addition, 37 of 90 combat drones were shot down across the country.
Forty-seven others dropped off radar, mostly due to the use of electronic countermeasures.
Two more drones are believed to have left Ukrainian airspace in the direction of Russia and Belarus.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for almost 1,000 days.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken earlier told reporters on a visit to NATO headquarters in Brussels that President Joe Biden is going to "use every day" he has left in office to strengthen NATO and support Ukraine.
Donald Trump is set to re-enter the White House on January 20. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has also renewed his call for stronger support for Ukraine.
